Although it seems as if the world has come to a standstill, progress is still being made on essential projects here at R&A.

Last year we reported on R&A’s partnership with Gresham Smith on a new project at Baptist Health South Florida. Baptist Health South Florida has a new brand identity aimed at engaging younger generations. In doing so, Baptist Health South Florida has set out to design the health system’s new generation of emergency care centers. R&A was brought on board as Architects to design a new parking structure in support of the new medical office building. The new parking structure will be a 4 level precast structure and consist of 422 spaces and is currently under construction. Read more about the new care centers here.

In January we shared the news of R&A’s awarded contract to lead the design and engineering of a parking garage at Lansing Community College. This garage is being designed and constructed on an existing surface parking lot 23 at the southwest corner of Capitol Ave. and Shiawassee Street. Due to the recent findings of a parking study performed to determine the long-term parking needs of the LCC campus, lot 23 will be constructed as 6 levels, and will provide 825 spaces. The lot 23 garage has a scheduled completion date of July 2021 and is currently moving forward in the city planning process.

Last year we reported on the news of an expansion of the MSU Grand Rapids Research Center, a six-story, 162,800-square-foot facility that opened its doors in Grand Rapids, Michigan in September of 2017. In 2019 a long-term ground lease was signed to allow for the continued development of the Grand Rapids Research Center site. This lease includes construction of a new Doug Meijer Medical Innovation Building (MIB) and a 600-space parking structure. Rich & Associates, working for the development joint venture that includes Rockford Construction, Walsh Construction and Murphy Development Group, is providing parking consulting, architectural and structural engineering design services for the parking structure in collaboration with SmithGroup, architects for the MIB. Construction on the parking structure started on February 14, 2020 and is on track to be completed February 4th, 2021 along with the MIB core and shell.
